When it comes to hot-and-cold thermal bathing, cooling off is as essential as warming up. A cold plunge, or cold water bath, is the yin to the fiery intensity of a sauna or hot tub’s yang. Anyone who’s dunked in 40-degree water knows how it can leave you feeling practically effervescent yet strangely calm. This centuries-old wellness regime has been proven to supercharge your circulation, reduce inflammation, cleanse skin, and fight fatigue. The best part? Benefits exponentially increase by doing it all outside.
British Columbia-based Goodland is in the business of crafting handsome bathing products from premium natural materials made to both endure and embody the elements. As fans of its striking wood fired tub, we were thrilled to learn of it's latest release: a complementary cold tub.

Intended to work as either a standalone unit or the other half of your at-home thermal bathing ritual (also known as “contrast therapy”), the Cold Tub has a sleek design made from double-welded stainless steel and western red cedar. It's available in natural wood grain or the artful charred “Soot Black” cedar siding, materials that won't just withstand elemental exposure but will develop a lovely patina over time.
The single-person tub is about 15 square feet, big enough to accommodate individuals up to 6'4", and can hold 125 gallons of water. It’s delivered with everything you need to install in one day—no professional setup or tools necessary. It also can run off a standard 120V power outlet, requiring much less electricity than many large home appliances (including my home sauna).

A mega perk is its user-friendly design: a fully-concealed WiFi-enabled chiller unit allows you to select the temperature via hidden panel or an app on your phone. And the water cleans itself with a three-step ozone and sediment filtration system for a refreshing soak that doesn’t require harsh chemicals while fully draining in ten minutes.
I personally appreciate the subtler aspects of the design, like the cedar perch seat, which allows you to slowly immerse yourself in the cold water to go at your own pace and customize the experience.

Ready to take the plunge? The Cold Tub price tag may evoke a similar response to dunking your head in ice—at $11,150 USD it's a proper investment. But as they say, health is wealth!
