You know we love a good collab, one where two brands go well beyond co-labeling to meld their product styles and design ground-up pieces for the culture. Today, we see the release of an all-new 18 East x Nanga collaboration, blending the outdoors adjacent urban style of New York City-based 18east with the expert design work by the Japanese masters of down.
Available as of 1 December 2023 at the 18 East NYC brick-and-mortar and online from 7 December, the two-piece 18 East x Nanga capsule collection consists of the Lookout Jacket ($595) and Feather Moc ($115), both made in Japan from flame-resistant Takibi fabric and filled with plumes of insulating Spanish duck down.
The Lookout Jacket receives inspiration for its name from the rangers stationed to lookout towers throughout the Pacific Northwest’s Cascade Mountains. The combination of the 115-gram water-repellent Spanish duck down fill, and the flame-resistant Japanese Takibi fabric would provide the perched ranger with high levels of warm and light protection from a wildfire’s distant embers.
We had the opportunity to see the jacket in person this week at the 18 East studio in Lower Manhattan and not only is the fabric and construction bomber to the eye and touch, but the jacket's unique boxy, almost cropped fit makes almost any size look good on anyone. It's good.
The same two materials and their key properties make their way into the Feather Moc, a cozy pair of slippers. Most insulated slippers and booties save quality materials like this for expedition-level footwear, but we’ll be more likely to wear these around the campfire or our drafty apartments.
Head to the 18 East shop if you’re a New York City dweller to scoop up the jacket and slippers, or hold on until December 7th to add to cart from 18 East online.
